Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know when the next blood moon is?
Blood moons occur on days that are multiples of your configured frequency. The default setting is every 7 days — so horde night falls on Day 7, 14, 21, 28, and so on. Enter your current day and frequency in the tool above to see your next horde date instantly. In-game, you'll hear thunder and the sky will turn red at 18:00 on horde day, giving you until 22:00 to reach your base.
Can I change the blood moon frequency?
Yes. V3.0 sandbox settings let you set the Blood Moon Frequency anywhere from 1 to 30 days. You can also set it to "Random" for unpredictable horde nights. Change it when creating a new world, or edit the setting mid-game through the Sandbox Options menu. After changing the frequency, this predictor will show your updated schedule.
What happens if I miss a blood moon night?
If you log out or die before 04:00 on horde night, the blood moon ends without completing. The horde does not carry over to the next day — you simply wait until the next scheduled horde night. Your game stage continues to increase from the days that pass, so the next horde will be harder. Some players intentionally skip early horde nights by staying underground or riding a vehicle through the night.
Does the blood moon frequency affect difficulty?
Indirectly, yes. Shorter frequencies (every 3–5 days) mean more horde nights over the same number of days — more combat XP and loot bags, but higher ammo consumption and base repairs. Longer frequencies (10+ days) give you more time to build between hordes, but your game stage advances with days survived, so each horde is harder when it arrives. Zombie composition is determined by your game stage, not the frequency setting.
