7 Days to Die V3.0 Best Weapons
Tier List: Every Weapon Ranked (With Magnitude System)

The short version
- Every weapon ranking written before June 2026 is outdated. The Magnitude system changes how you evaluate gear — a Q1 with a good orange-star roll can outperform a Q6 without one.
- M60 Machine Gun (Fortitude) and Auto Shotgun (Strength) are the two S-Tier weapons. Everything else ranks below them.
- The Combine Station keeps the best value of each stat independently — it does not add them together. +23% and +61% yields +61%, not +84%.
- Match your weapon to your highest attribute. Strength and Perception offer the strongest overall weapon coverage.
How Magnitude Changes Weapon Evaluation
Pre-V3.0, weapon quality (1–6) was the final word. Higher quality meant more damage and more mod slots. Period. Now, as detailed in the official V3.0 dev diary, the Magnitude system makes boosted stats independent of quality. A Q1 drop can roll +22% entity damage. A Q6 can roll nothing.
This means the best weapon isn't the one with the highest base damage in a spreadsheet — it's the one whose firing characteristics benefit most from Magnitude bonuses. High-fire-rate weapons with large magazines gain more from flat damage bonuses than slow single-shot weapons. Long-range weapons benefit proportionally more from range bonuses. Our tier rankings weight this accordingly.
Magnitude stats that can roll on weapons (verified from game data files):
- Entity Damage (+5% to +25%)
- Block Damage (+5% to +25%)
- Attack Speed (+3% to +12%)
- Range (+5% to +20%)
- Magazine Size (+5% to +15%)
S-Tier: Meta-Defining
These two define how V3.0 combat plays out. Both dominate their attribute tree and scale harder with Magnitude than anything else.
M60 Machine Gun — Fortitude / Machine Gunner
The M60 is the best weapon in V3.0. At 440 RPM with a 60-round magazine and 4 mod slots, it puts more lead downrange per second than anything else. On Horde Night with AP 7.62 and a maxed Machine Gunner perk, you hold the trigger and the corridor empties. Verified stats from the 7DTD Items Database: damage ranges from ~70 (Q1 standard 7.62) to ~96 (Q6 AP 7.62).
Magnitude scaling is what pushes the M60 definitively into S-Tier. It benefits from entity damage, range, AND magazine size bonuses — each one meaningfully improves the weapon. A fully Magnitude-optimized M60 with the Rad Remover mod and AP ammo is as close to a god weapon as 7 Days to Die gets. The Combine Station guide walks through the exact merge process.
The downside: ammo consumption. At 440 RPM, a single horde night burns 800–1,000 rounds. Run a dedicated 7.62 crafting pipeline (use the Crafting Chain Explorer to plan it) or buy out every trader's stock between Blood Moons. The V3.0 M60 Auto Turret, which shares 7.62 ammo, competes for the same pool — factor that into your crafting plans.
Damage: ~70 (Q1 standard 7.62) → ~96 (Q6 AP 7.62) · 440 RPM · 60-round mag · 4 mod slots · Fortitude tree
Auto Shotgun — Strength / Boomstick
The Auto Shotgun is the definitive answer to Demolishers. A point-blank mag dump to the head kills them faster than the explosive charge triggers — no detonation, no crater where your corridor floor used to be. At close range against any target, DPS competes with the M60.
A Q6 Auto Shotgun fires 10 pellets per shell at 70 RPM with a 16-round magazine (24 with the Drum Magazine mod). Each pellet benefits from the Boomstick perk's damage bonus. Against irradiated specials at close range, nothing kills faster.
Magnitude ceiling is slightly lower than the M60 because shotguns gain less from range and magazine size bonuses — but a +entity damage roll pushes per-pellet numbers into one-shot territory against most non-irradiated zombies.
10 pellets/shell · 70 RPM · 16-round mag (24 w/ Drum Mag) · 25 damage/pellet at Q6 · 4 mod slots · Strength tree
A-Tier: Excellent — Build Around These
These are the best weapons in their respective attribute trees. Each excels in its role to the point where hybrid builds become worth the perk investment.
Sniper Rifle — Perception / Dead Eye
The Sniper Rifle does one job: Demolisher removal at range. With AP 7.62 and maxed Dead Eye, a headshot kills irradiated zombies through the mid-game and puts Demolishers down in two to three shots — from outside their detection range. Semi-automatic at 150 RPM with a 5-round magazine and the longest effective range of any firearm (80).
Magnitude priority: Entity Damage above all else. A high damage roll pushes headshots into one-shot territory. Range bonuses are nice but rarely matter — most kills happen well within the Sniper's already-generous range.
150 RPM (semi-auto) · 5-round mag · Range 150 / Effective 80 · 4 mod slots · Perception tree
Desert Vulture — Agility / Gunslinger
The Desert Vulture hits like a rifle with handgun handling. It's the highest-damage pistol in the game, and Magnitude scaling pushes it from B-Tier to A-Tier. Damage, range, and attack speed all benefit the weapon. A Magnitude-optimized Vulture at 130 RPM fires faster, hits harder, and reaches farther than any other sidearm. It's the best secondary weapon for non-Agility builds that stockpile .44 Magnum ammo.
130 RPM · 8-round mag (11 extended) · Range 50 / Effective 30 · 4 mod slots · Agility tree
Rocket Launcher — Perception / Demolitions Expert
The Rocket Launcher is a specialist tool. One rocket into a corridor packed with 15 zombies kills or maims the entire group. Against Demolishers, a body shot detonates their charge immediately — which also kills anything standing near them.
Warning: friendly fire to your base is real. A misplaced rocket destroys concrete blocks. Single-shot magazine, slow reload — swap to the Launcher, fire once, and switch back to your primary.
Sniper Rifle + Rocket Launcher share the Perception tree, making Perception the strongest hybrid combat build in V3.0. For base designs that maximize this loadout, see the V3.0 Base Building Guide.

Steel Club — Strength / Pummel Pete
The most stamina-efficient melee weapon in the game. Fast swings, high knockdown probability, and Pummel Pete's chain-stun effect make it the safest option for clearing POIs. The Machete kills single targets faster through bleed, but the Club's crowd control keeps you alive in confined spaces.
Magnitude priority: Entity Damage + Attack Speed. Faster swings with higher damage compound each other.
B-Tier: Strong — With Conditions
| Weapon | Attribute | What It Does Well |
|---|---|---|
| AK-47 Machine Gun | Fortitude | M60's predecessor. Best automatic from Day 14 until the M60 unlocks. Same 7.62 ammo pool. |
| Machete | Agility | Stacking bleed kills while you reposition. Synergizes with Agility movement bonuses for hit-and-run. |
| Steel Spear | Perception | Longest melee reach. Thrown attack pierces multiple targets. Spear Master adds armor penetration. |
| Steel Sledgehammer | Strength | Highest single-hit melee damage. One charged power attack kills or knocks down most non-irradiated zombies. |
C-Tier: Viable — But Outclassed
| Weapon | Attribute | What Holds It Back |
|---|---|---|
| SMG-5 | Agility | Burns 9mm fast for damage the Desert Vulture does in fewer shots. The Vulture outclasses it in every role. |
| Pump Shotgun | Strength | Fine before the Auto Shotgun unlocks. Obsolete after. |
| Lever-Action Rifle | Perception | Outperformed by the Sniper Rifle in damage, fire rate, and magazine size. |
| Compound Bow | Agility | Silent and ammo-efficient, but damage falls off hard after Day 28. Best as a stealth POI tool, not a horde weapon. |
| Steel Knuckles | Fortitude | Fastest melee attack speed and lowest stamina cost. Range is inches — you eat hits against crowds. |
| Stun Baton | Intellect | CC melee with stun and repulsor mods. Effective at controlling single targets. Struggles against horde crowds. |
D-Tier: Skip These
| Weapon | Why |
|---|---|
| Blunderbuss | Longest reload in the game for mediocre damage. The Pipe Shotgun does the same job better at the same game stage. |
| Pipe Pistol | A Wooden Club is more reliable and doesn't cost ammo. Skip. |
| Primitive Bow | You'll craft a Wooden Bow in the first 10 minutes. Don't spend arrow feathers on this. |
Using the Combine Station for Weapons
The tier list tells you what to chase. The Combine Station is how you make your chase target better than anything in the loot table. For a complete walkthrough of the station's repair features, crafting cost, and trader locations, see the Magnitude & Combine Station guide.
How stat merging actually works:
The Combine Station compares two copies of the same item and, for each stat independently, keeps the higher value. It does not add stats together. A +23% damage roll on one copy and +61% on the other gives you +61% on the result, not +84%. Because each stat merges independently, you can build toward an optimized weapon across multiple combine operations — collecting magnitude rolls from different donors and merging them into your target one at a time.
The workflow
- Loot everything with an orange star. Don't auto-scrap lower-quality items before checking stats.
- Identify your target — the highest-quality version of the weapon.
- Collect donor copies with boosted stats on different attributes.
- Combine. Output keeps higher quality, best Magnitude values, and transfers installed mods.
- Repeat with additional donors for each stat you want to optimize.
A Q1 weapon with a strong Magnitude roll is worth more than a Q5 with no roll. The Q1 feeds the Combine Station. The Q5 goes to the trader.
Horde Night Loadout by Game Stage
Your weapon choices should match your game stage. Use the Horde Night Planner to get exact zombie counts and ammo requirements — the numbers below are per-player baselines.
